The Valley of Milk
Named after its milky-white streams that cascade through emerald meadows, Doodhpathri is Kashmir's best-kept secret. A hidden paradise of rolling grasslands and pine forests untouched by commercial tourism.
Doodhpathri, or 'Valley of Milk', takes its name from the milky white, frothy streams that tumble through its rolling green meadows. Situated at an elevation of 2,730 metres in the Budgam district, it remains one of the least commercialised destinations in Kashmir — a dream for those seeking Kashmir without the crowds. The vast expanse of grassland, framed by dense forests of fir and pine, is a favourite grazing ground for Gujjar and Bakarwal nomadic shepherds. A day trip from Srinagar, Doodhpathri rewards visitors with wildflower carpets in spring and a golden silence broken only by the rush of glacial streams.

Vast open grasslands at 2,730 metres, carpeted with wildflowers in spring and gold in autumn — completely unspoiled.

The namesake frothy white streams fed by glacial meltwater rush through the meadows — perfect for a gentle wade in summer.

A sprawling high-altitude meadow 15 km further into the mountains — one of Asia's largest alpine meadows, reached only on foot.

Dense forests of Himalayan fir and blue pine surround the meadow — peaceful walking trails through ancient woodland.

Interact with Gujjar nomadic shepherds who bring their flocks here in summer — a window into a vanishing way of life.

With virtually zero light pollution, Doodhpathri offers some of the most spectacular night sky views anywhere in Kashmir.
